Took the Merc out for a spin this afternoon, the tranny is acting up as of today. It won't downshift to 1st at a stop light on its own. It worked perfect yesterday. John ( my buddy with a transmission business) test drove it and he thinks the governer is stuck, there was also some metal fillings on the end of the dip stick......One more thing to fix, good thing I've got 2 spares....LOL....Maybe it's time for a AOD swap. He's going to price both rebuild kits for me this week. As soon as I get a chance we are gonna pull the tailshaft housing and inspect the governor. I'll have to decide then wether to repair the C4 or swap in an AOD, I could use the gas mileage as it's a thirsty rig right now. My buddy Craig can lead me throught the swap, he's done it already in his 64 Fairlane. Maybe then I can install some 4.11 gears to go with that deep 1st the AOD's have...hehe....No shame on my old $200 junkyard C4, it's lasted through 6 years of my abuse and it's bone stock. ;D

personally, id stick with the C4. AOD is one of the worst trannys stock ever lol. You can make em work pretty good with shift kits and such. But the C4 is nicer! ;D

Yeah I know, I was just rolling the idea around in my head. I really could use the extra gear but I do like the symplicity of the C4 and it's reliability. ;D
