OK, I'm finally finishing up my buddie's 5.0 for his 64 Fairlane as we are going to start the swap tommorow night. The engine is a 89 Lincoln roller 5.0 (stock E6 heads) , but we are using a 1994 5.0 HO cam and converting it to a carbed setup. I bolted the heads on and put all the valvetrain on. I used the old stock rocker arms/fulcrums from my 1994 5.0 HO as they were in better shape than his lincoln rockers but I used the Lincoln pushrods and fulcrum guides. I followed the HO firing order and torqued all the fulcrum bolts to 25-ftlbs as per spec. This is the first time I've ever adjusted the new style Ford rockers ( I'm used to roller rockers and old stud mount rockers) and I'm finding .030" - .040" of lash between the rocker arms and the valve stem. The book says .123" - .146" is desired and .098"- .198" is allowable for the HO engine. The heads were milled (.010 or .020 - can't remember how much), the valves were ground and the seats were cut. The lifters were not "pumped up" with oil when I installed the valvetrain. Do I need shorter pushrods or not? Is there any difference in length between HO and non-HO pushrods? Anyone got any idea's or thought's on this topic?
