Heres my new 1994 Thunderbird drag car project. The chassis, engine, tranny and spare parts are being supplied by John at A.L.S transmission in return for me running his company colors on the car - pretty good deal I figure . Its pretty much gutted and now its time to start building it back up....but there's still a little more weight to come out yet...hehe...an ounce is an ounce.
We took out the gas tank today, I got like $30 of free gas out of it too..... ;D....We also stripped down the 351W engine so we can pull it out some night this week. The crusher has still got a little work to do before we can get the Bobcat in there to pull it. ....I've already scored two C4 trannys and I'm still watching for more. Ya just can't have enough spare parts can ya?
I'm going to put the doors on serious diet soon, loose the window tracks and everything inside as well as some of the door frame. The doors, firewall, package tray, dash and etc will be covered with .032" aluminum sheeting. I think the car is coming along nicely at this point. Once everything is clean we will paint everything black top to bottom.
We are trying to build it to meet IHRA S/Pro tech rules for the future incase we run 11.49 or faster.... ...if the Idependent Rear Suspension doesn't stand up then it will be tubbed and a solid axle will be installed. There are super coupes in the US running 11.2 et's with slicks and the IRS so I guess its fairly tough. I can buy heaver aftermarket axle shafts from Raxles too.
We are hoping to run in the 12's for the first season. Hopefully the engine will be useable and I'll have a little money this winter to build some HP and by some slicks. I've already got a minimum low budget engine package planned out and the HP can only go up from there if money allows. ;D
