My engine is a 1994 roller 5.0 High Output. I just want to know if a single plane Holley Street Dominator intake is any better than a Weiand action plus intake? The Holley unit is old but in great shape and I could get it for a song. I just wonder if I will pick up any HP with it. Right now I have a 1" phenolic spacer on top of my Weiand action plus intake.

The Weiand Action + is a dual plane manifold designed for street performance, not drag racing. The Holley Street Dominator is as you pointed out, a single plane manifold that is sold as a street and strip manifold. I suggest it is much better suited as a drag race manifold than street as single plane manifolds do not work well in srtreet applications but are best suited for full throttle use.

The Holley intake I have is much older, it basically looks like a dual plane intake with the divider cut out. The opening were the carb sits is smaller on the Holley than it is on my Weiand. Its more of a high rise manifold than my low rise Weiand.

The Holley intakes have been proven to be very good intakes for Fords. I ran a Street Dominator for several years on my 428 and saw no gains when I switched to the much touted Blue Thunder intake. The Holley is now on a 64 4x4 in Missouri and he swears it is the best intake he ever had, 390 regularly going over 7000. Madard LebLanc ran one on his 351W and saw almost no gains when he put a Victor Jr on.

I had a closer look at the intake, it does have a divider in the plenum, my mistake. I guess the only real difference between it and my Wieand is that the holley is a high rise. I was looking at some torquerII intakes on ebay, got any opinions on those? I don't want one with the "twisted" plenum, I was looking at the newer version. I was also looking at a Weiand Excelerator for a 5.0.I still want my Merc to drive ok on the street too.

Torquer 2's for Fords are "JUNK"!!! Years ago Albert took a Performer off and put a Torquer 2 on using the same carb. Took 6 jet sizes to get it to go down track without a miss, 8 for decent performance. Reading spark plugs was a nightmare because the distribution was so bad. Don't know anything about Wieand stuff.

Junk huh.....good to know before I would have bought one. Maybe I'll just upgrade to a weiand stealth or an edelbrock air-gap. high rise-dual plane. ;D

with the camshaft you have in your car, asingle plane intake would probably be bad for your combo. You would gain hp but your torque loss would be greater . The RPM AIR-GAP would give you the best of both worlds.

Yeah, I was looking at the stealth intake, I'm kinda pro Holley as I've always had good luck with any Holley product I've ever had.
