What did you break this time? ...don't tell me another tranny bellhousing?

No not the bellhousing this time. The other end of the transmission. Beat the bearing out of the tail shaft. Got the car up on jackstands. Sending the driveshaft away to get that checked and rechecking pinion angle. Starting to become a little frustrating...and expensive. A lot cheaper to race rentals. ;D ;D

I noticed the very same thing on my 63 after returing from the drag races last month. The front yoke is quite sloppy on the tailshaft of my C4 tranny, something to look at this winter as I'm also putting a C4 in my new drag car and I don't want to have the same problem with that one. Just a little more play than I'm comfortable with. I'll pull the tailshaft off and check out the bearing too. I've already scrounged up two spare C4's for my race car and I'm still looking for more. ;D..These old 3 speed tranny's are getting harder and harder to find.

Thanks but no thanks, AOD's are too big and heavy...not too mention they won't take what a C4 will. They do have a deep 1st gear for getting you out of the hole though.....hmm.....naaah....I'll stick with the tried and true C4. ;D

I should have an AOD in the Merc, it runs 3000rpm at 60mph....LOL ...I'll be going full manual at the track with my C4.

Good idea. How soon do you think you'll have the drag car ready?

It will be ready for next spring. I brought the 351W home last night, I tore the heads off, it looks like it will need to be bored out as there was slight amounts of rust in 2 cylinders. I'm going to tear down the short block tonight to check out the crank and rods. It had E5 heads on it too....junk....so I'll be bolting on something else like ported E7's or early 351W heads. The car is gutted now and ready for the dash to be fabbed up. I also need to fix a couple of rust spots in the trunk and underneath as well as weld the factory holes in the firewall closed. With any luck it will be ready to race next summer. ;D
