For those unfortunate souls that did not attend the opening you have missed an event that will be remembered for a long time to come by many.
The committee has done a fantastic job in getting this event off the ground for your Association.
We were blessed with 187 vehicle entries and approximately 3000 spectators for the 2 days with participants from as far away as Hartland N.B. You should have seen the parking lots and the line up to the john.
Speaking of lineups, the one to the food bus was not less than 75 feet, no kidding.
We want to specifically thank all the boys from CB who spent their entire weekend helping and teaching us how it is done. They made this deal a lot simplier and helped us get it off with any major disaster. We have learned a lot and will make several changes for future events to improve the show.
There are thanks needed for all the volunteer help as well as all the sponsors for their generous gifts. We will post a separate thank you note.
There were a number of people that arrived Thursday and approx. 25 vehicles and their owners camped out Friday night.
The weather on Saturday looked like it could RAIN any minute most of the day and the winds were brisk at times, ( that means it blew like hell ) however it was a direct headwind so it was not too bad for racing except a decrease in MPH.
It never leaked a drop and by the end of the day there were 144 vehicles entered. Outstanding turnout of both racers and spectators considering the forecast.
We only had 1 oil down which took 25 minutes to clean up.
Time trials were had by all then we moved into the gamblers race.
There were 68 vehicles in the race and the following took home the marbles:
# 1 Barrett Bonnar
# 2 Bob Morse
# 3 Daryl Stewart
When we quit for the night the tree looked like it was equipped with 200 watt bulbs because of the approaching darkness. Man, what a day.......
...now the evening................it began to RAIN about 9:30 PM and it came in buckets with drops the size of the balls in axle bearings. You should have seen members rescuing the tree in the downpour........WoW !!!
It rained all night long and quit about 7:00 AM. Sunday. Didn't look good at all but the racing gods were with us and the winds dried the track by 10:30 and were racing again.
The SUN came out and it was a great day to be racing.
Time trials were had again in the AM, and at 2:00 PM we gave away the Chevy Block, Oil, Race Jacket, Car Cleaning Kit and Other Stuff that was all donated for the ticket sale. Every ticket was sold and people were looking for more......thanks sponsors..........what a gift !!!!!
Volunteers sold 50/50 tickets and the Sunday winner was P.J's Motor Sports of Yarmouth. His 50% was $ 702 and he promtly donated it back to the NSDRA.!!!! Now ladies and gentlemen, that is true dedication to the sport of drag racing. Thanks a million Pat Saulnier, it is truely appreciated. !!!
Oh yeah , we raced right after that......
The race was divided into :
Bike and Sled,Sportsman,Pro,Super Pro
There were no oil downs ( thank goodness ) and racing was finished at approximately 6:00 PM. with the following conclusions being made:
Bike and Sled
#1 Michael Ingram
#2 Peter Carpenter
#3 Sheldon MacKay
Sportsman
#1 Scott Sprague
#2 Brad Matthews
#3 Rick Rood
Pro
#1 Tommie Vickery
#2 Vaughn Boone
#3 Warren Cottreau
SuperPro
#1 Barrett Bonnar with a perfect .500 light in the final
#2 John Croft
#3 Lawrence Sherman
There were a few thousands of dollars in payouts as well as donated Trophy's for the first 3 places for all catagories for the Sunday event.
Bob Morse shelled out $ 100 cash to Barrett for the .500 light............thanks Bob................
There were a few disappointed folks looking for extra time trials at the end but because of a communication error it was not to be and for that we are truly sorry.
We were also disappointed that even with an announcement there were not too many faces to look at when the tear down and clean up was initiated. We will need to work on that too.......!!!
All in all you couldn't have asked for a better event. Can't wait till the next one on Sept 12th weekend.
I will post some pics if I can figure out how................. ;D ;D ;D ;D
I am sure others have more pics but this is just to give you an idea of the track etc.
