Yeah, my 89 GT had a lil over 200K on it..ran strong, never smoked at all.
the current car had 180 on it with a rebuilt shortblock by the previous owner. put about 20K on it before it started smoking. Threw the current rebuilt SB in it and smokes from day one.
Drives a guy nuts! Nothing worse then racing someone and coating them in blue smoke lol

Yup, engines are weird that way. The 5.0 in my truck has 183k and it doesn't smoke at all even on a cold start in winter, I has almost no oil pressure either...LOL :oThe previous owners were not up on the oil changes by the look of what I found on the heads when I changed the valve cover gaskets...LOL

i bought them used from a guy. he said they ported by a shop in CB i thnk, but he bought them used as well. I've never had them flowed so im not sure if they have or not. They look pretty good, but maybe they where hogged out too much. no idea.

I was kinda thinking the port work looked great but the ports are huge too. I'm trying to improve flow in my heads but keep a little velocity too. I haven't opened things up very much, mostly I removed sharp edges, the t-bumps and blended everything. I'm debating on wether to open up the intake ports a little or not...I'd like to match my intake manifold ports to the heads for a straight shot into the head. I've got some very old NOS torker head gaskets and intake gastkets I could use to figure out where everything sits in relation to each other and then blend to suit.

Yeah, the intake ports are gasket matched on my heads. you cant see it in these pics but you can see the scribe marks on the heads where they marked it out.
I was worried about wether they where hogged out too much. But i made decent power with them and an intake swap. gained about 60rwhp! not too bad!

I was just kinda worried about improper porting causing "flow stall" in the ports? What do you guy's think about gasket matching, good or bad?...I kinda thought that if the intake port in the head was bigger than the runner in the manifold the flow would have a clean shot into the head....not a a lot bigger, just enough.

Stuart. I also saw that you mentioned Debert in one of your posts. That is where I am from. Do you work in Debert or do you come for the show & shine. I had my port wok done by the head engine builder at R&D performance in Onslow, just outside Debert.

I live in Timberlea just outside Halifax but I drive my Merc up to Debert every spring for the big show. I missed last years due to the rain. ....I can't afford to pay for things like head porting and I'd rather do it myself so I'm the one to blame if I screw something up. I believe the best way to learn is to do, so I'm not afraid to tackle any project no matter how big or small. ;D

Untouched intake port. finished port. Here's a side by side view, the untouched on the left and the finished on the right. Now I just gotta do the other head.... ....So far I've got 107 man hours in the drag car project, I've got about 11-hrs in the head porting.
