Thoughts / Questions/ Comments THIS IS THE PLACE TO BE. Sport Compact drivers I want to hear from you. Or maybe that is the first question. How do I know if I am a Sport Compact racer or a Sports man racer .Well if you race a truck /SUV or V8 Powered car safe to say your not a SC Racer. But if you don't know for sure the best thing to do is ask me . That is all for now thanks to everybody for reading hope to hear from you soon. THANKS D-MAN Robert Tanner

I think this would be great!, To get the Sport compacts a class of their own would definately bring the guys/girls out to compete..Sport compact cars now don't really have an area to compete against each other and would definatly make competing more fun and less intimidating!..I know my first few times at the track with my 10 yr old hyundai being lined up against 7 sec dragsters was extremely intimidating!! Even though I'm in sportsman class, I would lower my boost to be able to compete in this class! ..This could be very awesome for all thge S.C owners in the Maritimes!!... You have my total support D-Man, If theres anything I can do to help out let me know!

If you would like to get a Sport Compact Class ( SCC ) going then it will take someone to grab the bull by the horns and set it up. You need to actually get people to come on board and support the SCC in order for this to happen, by that I mean get a field together of 10 + cars that will be willing to race for each of the 2012 scheduled race weekends (5) .
Also by doing this it shows interrest that people will make the extra effort to come out to support the SCC , I would be willing to lend anyone a hand with the project and take it before the powers to be and work to have your class for the 2012 season, but like I stated it will take work for this to happen.

Thanks Regit looking forward to seeing you at the track this year and thanks for the support . As far as the 2012 season goes, nothing is set in stone yet. Now being the Sport Compact Representative for Greenfield you can bet I'm working hard to make the SC class very well known at Greenfield and make it a 5 weekend event .Should be a great year for racing and a huge foot step for SC drivers. As far as helping goes right now spreading the word and letting everyone know about it is the key to making it work .Sending out links to this post would be helpful as well. Looking forward to seeing you again and maybe finally getting that chance to line up with you this year and make some smoke lol . I well keep posting as I know more info about the 2012 race season, so do keep checking back. Thank D-Man

Thanks Sam for posting and for the info. As the S.C.R I do plan on taking the bull by the horns.10 cars would be a nice starting point for this year. With the efforts of myself and fellow racers I am hoping for 14 to 16 cars a weekend. You are right there is a lot of work to be done and help well be needed for sure .I don't know if you well be attending the meeting on Thursday but if you are I well be looking forward to talking with you more .
Thanks D-Man

Im on board to help out. I really wanna see Greenfield help us out with our ideas of the Street Fighter races we are planning to setup. So far Mirmachi is on board and I believe we have cape breton interested as well.
As for the other races at Greenfield, im going to try and make it out for as many as I can, its the closest track for me to get some seat time with my new setup. Im hoping to come out flying in 2012!

I'm from Moncton and if we can get the street fighter events setup I'll be making my way down to give your track a go. Would be cool if you guys get your own point series also. Once step in the right direction thats for sure.

From Benedict Post subject: Re: Greenfield dragway SPORT COMPACT CLASS 2012 PostPosted: Mon Jan 09, 2012 9:58 am Location: Sackville, NS
The Sport compact community is planning a heads up "Street fighter" series of 3 events this summer. We were hoping to make one of the events at Greenfield. How hard would it be for them to set up a class of 10-16 cars with a pro tree?
its going to be a competitive class, but we cant really afford to put alot of restrictions on the class thats just starting out.
We put a limit on tire size, 24.5 are the max. V6's are allowed, but no V8's. There will not be a turbo size limit....
these are all things that can be looked at again next year if the class fills up...
Anyone that has raced, knows very well that ANYTHING can happen.. a "800whp" car can miss a gear just as easy as a 400whp car...
Thats why we are setting up a points series. Every time you show up for a round, you get 10 points. The MOST a person can get at the end, is 10pts more than 2nd place!

FROM DraginX Posted: Tue Jan 10, 2012 5:59 pm
I doubt you will see too many 800whp cars out running. And if you do they have to make it down the track just like everyone else. Lets just say their axles and trannies won't last as long as someone at 400whp. Not to mention the fact that traction will be a major issue. I think this year is going to be a big learning curve for anyone who wants to compete in this class. Personally I want to make pretty big power but my car will most likely only be at 450whp most of the summer to learn the car and to play with traction control and setting up suspension, etc... Just because someone makes 800whp doesn't mean they are going to go fast. Power is a small percentage of the equation, that's why some guys in the states are running mid to low 10's with 450whp and some guys are running mid to high 10's at 800+whp. I think if people put their minds to it and wants to set their cars up, this could be a very competitive and fun class.

Thank you for the support on this. I think this could be a good year for the SC community. I hope you don't mind me cut/past your posts. My focus is on the NSDRA form and thought this info was good and should be posted hear. To help if you see something posted here you could relay it back to the lowmotion page that is started. DraginX I could not say it any better when it comes to the importance of proper car setup and drag racing and would look forward to you and Benedict racing at Greenfield Dragway . Power is nothing with out being able to put it to the ground. THANKS. D-Man

For Greenfield Dragway and SC this is what I am trying to put together for 2012. I have been putting alot of thought in the up and coming season at the track. And how it can be made better for the S.C. drivers and to build up the volume of car in that field. So here is what i have come up with to best improve that class. The thought of having a 1 weekend event for SC bothers me and it don't matter what weekend you have it on although I am happy to have it . Because doing it this way gives no incentive to join NSDRA as a SC driver and race 4 points because they don't want to merge with SM class . So lets try something different all together. lets run SC all 5 weekends and make it a 13sec ? and slower class and yes i no there are SC drivers out there running faster times. But the number of SC drivers and (first timers) running slower is much higher .And this is my main focus right now. SO here is the spin to get the ball going. NO WEEKEND PRIZE MONEY . 3rd place prize a Greenfield dragway Sport Compact T shirt and a trophy ? for 2nd and first . Now this would help to keep the cost down. And for a incentive to join NSDRA and run for points. Put up a 1,000$ for the S.C driver with the most points at the end of the year. I think this would push more (first timers) to come out to the track and try drag racing and comeback each weekend . These are my thoughts for now let me no what you think about it . NOW for the SC drivers that don't want to turn down the boost or spray to run 13sec the Street Fighter event would be good for you. (IN ALL.THIS WOULD BE A HUGE STEP FOR SPORT COMPACT DRIVERS ) and a good starting point. Dedication and support from the SC community well be much needed for this to happen. Joining NSDRA would be a good way to start to show your support on this. And volunteering a hand even a hour of your time at the end of a race day to help with clean up and what not would be great way to start showing your support. We are a volunteer run track THANKS. D-Man

does not matter to me as i wouldn't qualify for this class but you will get lots of opposition on your prize money for champion as the other classes pay only prizes no cash.i don't think the pro/super pro guys with 10+ years of racing would like "newbies" getting paid for championship.other ideas do seem good though good luck

i hate to spoil your fun, mrgoodwrench, but SOME of these "newbies" in the sport compact world have been running 10.99's since 1999-2000
just because we havent been invading Greenfield, doesnt mean the sport compact community is "new"
When Miramichi had one of their big import weekends a couple summers ago, they had significantly MORE racers then the previous points weekend there. What does that tell you?
The ONLY reason that greenfield is hard for us to attend a full weekend is because 98% of us CAMP for the weekend. We dont have the luxury of having campers and motorhomes to accompany us to the track for the weekend. We are unable to have camp fires or anything of the sorts, so it makes it hard for us to stay there for the weekend.
Im going to be staying 10 minutes down the road at my cousins house this year, but not alot of us places to stay.

fun?do you not read all the posts?the newbies quote was striaght from robert tanner's post.as for campers and motorhomes i have neither i run a 15 second street car cause i have other commitments first and that is all my budget allows.i show up faithfully for sunday points racing every race for past 4 years even though some weeks my gas and entry fee probably should have been used elsewhere.if you run 10.99 kudos but according to r.t.'s post you won't qualify for his class either.my fun is hanging out at the track and chatting with some great people i met there and in fact one even cut me a good deal on a used open trailer so if my slow old bucket of bolts dies on me i can still get home,it's fun when you hit on consistency if for only one week and finish on top.again good luck and the more the merrier but before you go off on a rant read the posts i wasn't crapping on anyone just giving an opinion on something i saw that may not fly with the guys with big money in their gear basically running for trophys yet a proposal for a new class is for a grand to the winner, thats a slap to all the other racers no matter what class or experience.
again i hope everyone comes out no matter what they run,the more racers and/or fans the better for our track and sport and maybe somewhere down the road Greenfield could become more permanent or at least add another race or two because the demand is there.

OK.To both sides I am sorry seams my wording (newbies) has made quit the off topic discussion here. All i meant buy it was (new SC drivers that want to race but have not yet tried). There are a lot of SC drivers that have not tried drag racing at Greenfield because they are intimidated by the sports man class and v8s as well. So I have changed my post (newbies) is now (first timers) I hope that clears things up so this dose not happen again. I wish to keep this page clean. Ben keep in mind you say the SC community is hopping to get a Street Fighter event at Greenfield making enemies here well not help sport compacts out at all. Board members and sponsor for the track can see all that takes place here if they want. Just something to think about .Lashing out at anyone on here and not knowing who they are or what roll they play could make it even harder to invest in us. And I am saying that to anybody getting on board from the SC community KEEP IT CLEAN. Nothing on this page well be hidden . THANKS. D-Man
