Hi..I've just pulled the heads on our bbc dragster[valve job] and its showing signs of sludge build up especialy at the rear rockers.we are using royal purple 20-50 synthetic,I've never had this problem with this oil in our road race cars but that is a long slow heat cycle compared to dragging.we do not have a coolant leak and always warm the car before the burn out...any opinons out there ? do we need a synthetic ? is there an oil that most people use,our motor is quite soft[9:1 pump gas]......any advise would be welcome....thanks...Pat

From what I have seen that is quite common especially in the BB cars. With the humidity at a constant 120% this year and the engine and oil rarely if never really getting hot you can easily encounter sludge. As you are aware moisture is being collected in the engine and getting into the oil as the engine cools down. I suppose some oils are more prone to that than others but unless it is excessive I would not start changing brands. The only solution I could offer is to add an engine oil base heater or a block heater and leave it plugged in to keep the engine and oil warm and moisture free. .........or you could, between races, put the engine in your street can and drive it daily.............just kidding...... ;D
