Make sure the threaded rod is 3/8 inch and that you use flat washers on the bottom and a 1/8 X 1 steel strap across the top of the battery(IHRA rulebook again - sorry)

1/8 X 1 Aluminum is OK - my message should have said "metal" instead of just steel - sorry.

3/8" huh, thats typical....I got some threaded rod today and its 1/4"......I think if my battery comes loose I've got bigger problems than the 1/4" threaded rod holding it down because the Merc will likely be on its roof..... ....Pretty hefty battery rules for a 14 second car.

Question about the battery.
My car is a cavalier Z24 and I have the battery relocated to the trunk. What we did was cut the factory battery tray out from under the hood and bolted it to the floor in the trunk using the stock hold down for it. The battery is very solid and is not going anyware (it's a dry cell battery too) Is this going to be acceptable or do I need to make a battery box for it?

Those rules are there to protect spectators and track crew from flying parts in case of an accident. A 3/8 rod would survive a violent rollover much better than a 1/4 one. Below is a reprint from the IHRA rulebook: All batteries must be securely mounted. Batteries may not be relocated into the driver or passenger compartments. Rear firewall of .024-inch steel or .032-inch aluminum (including package tray) required when battery is relocated in trunk. In lieu of rear firewall, battery may be located in a sealed .024-inch-steel, .032-inch-aluminum, or IHRA accepted poly box. If sealed box is used in lieu of rear firewall, box may not be used to secure battery and must be vented outside of body. Relocated battery(s) must be fastened to frame or frame structure with a minimum of two 3/8- inch-diameter bolts. ("J" hooks prohibited or must have open endwelded shut.) Metal battery hold-down straps mandatory.Strapping tape or Electrical zip ties prohibited. Stock unaltered battery boxes / trays with OEM hold downs permitted only in stock location. In the rule book it states that the fuel line must be "metallic"....does this include softer metals like aluminum or copper? My car is a 1963 and the OEM fuel line was mounted on the floor along the edge of the driveshaft tunnel. I have 5/16" copper line mounted in the stock location, will this pass for one day of racing? I guess I'm just not sure how fussy the tech guys are going to be? Quote from the CB tech page: Fuel Lines: All non-OEM fuel lines (including gauge and/or data-recorder lines) must be metallic, steel-braided or IHRA-accepted "woven or woven- pushlock." A maximum of 12 inches total (front to rear) of non-metallic or non-steel-braided hose is permitted for connection purposes only; individual injector-nozzle fuel lines are excluded. Fuel lines (except steel- braided lines) in the flywheel/bellhousing area must be enclosed in a 16- inch length of steel tubing, 1/8-inch minimum wall thickness, securely mounted as a protection against fuel-line rupture. Fuel lines may not be routed in the driveshaft tunnel. IHRA-accepted woven or woven-pushlock fuel lines: Aeroquip FC300, FC332; Aeroquip Star Lite 200; AQP; Earl's Prolite; Gates LOL Plus; Goodridge 710; RussellTwist-Loc 836 and XRP HS-79.
